Road To Recovery....Take Two

Overall, Sloan had a positive day today!  A few major milestones...
  • Sloan was extubated this morning - woohoo!  She is now on high flow oxygen like she was when she was extubated last time.  She has not required the cpap...which is good!
No tube...take two
  • They also started feeding again today.  She is still getting minimal feedings as they want to make sure she can digest everything ok.  They will continue to slowly increase her feedings as she shows she can handle it.  When the nurse checked her today, she had digested everything they had given her.
  • Kyle and I were each able to hold Sloan today for about an hour a piece.  As soon as we got her into our arms she settled right in and fell asleep.  Nothing seemed to bother her when she was being held and Kyle and I were over the moon to be able to hold her for so long.  All the nurses have commented on how much she likes to be held and when we get her home she'll want her snuggle time.  Which, I am sure, won't be a problem for us!
  • Sloan was taken out of her surgery bed today and put back into a crib.  We set her all up with her stuffed animals and blankets so she's nice and cozy.
  • They were able to remove her catheter as she was putting out enough fluids that they felt comfortable she was ready.  Now they will just continue to monitor her diapers to make sure she is continuing to put out fluid which will ultimately help bring her swelling down.
  • We also had a few visitors today too.  Anna stopped by to see Sloan, catch up with us and brought us dinner.  It was a nice break to have something other than hospital food.  Uncle Ryan also stopped by to meet Sloan.  He's been working over on this side of the state so swung by when he wrapped up his day.

Tonight the plan is to let her ride out things as she is now.  We'll leave her meds where they are at.  She's on pain medication, nutrition (lipids, breast milk, etc), diuretic (to help get her fluids off) and a light sedative.  Leave her oxygen at it's current level.  They plan to begin to ween this in the morning if she does well tonight.  So we are figuring it'll be a quiet night for Sloan (or I guess we should say we are hoping it is).  All in all, a good day that we are hoping will continue so she can heal and we can move forward and get closer to going home!
